چکیده

Abstract Background Hearing loss and cognitive impairment are postoperative complications which need more awareness by anaesthesiologists. We set out to investigate whether sevoflurane or propofol would have a negative impact on auditory function, attention, memory. This is prospective randomized controlled study was conducted patients who were candidates for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia with either the propofol. All included participants subjected evaluation preoperative 1 week after operation. Cognitive assessment included: Paired Associate Learning test (PALT) Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT). Audiological done measuring brainstem response (ABR). Results There no statistically significant difference between both groups in age ( p value = 0.537) sex 0.175). In group, values of LT ABR-I III significantly higher than ones < 0.001, 0.003), all RT ABR waves P 0.05). LTABR-I, III, III–V (0.012, 0.008 0.009) RTABR-III, V, I–III, 0.041, 0.029, 0.005 0.001). differences sides > worsening pre- PASAT scores groups, respectively, (< 0.001) 0.906). addition, there PALT group only 0.01) 0.038). Conclusions function attention following two drugs. Whereas, memory impaired only.

Protective Effect of Low-dose Sevoflurane Inhalation and Propofol Anesthesia on the Myocardium after Carotid Endarterectomy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

BACKGROUND Myocardial infarction is an important cause of mortality after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Sevoflurane provides myocardial protection to patients undergoing coronary surgery, but whether it also reduces the incidence of myocardial injury in CEA patients is unclear. In this study, we evaluated the cardioprotective effect of low-dose sevoflurane with propofol in patients undergoing C...

Cognitive dysfunction following desflurane versus sevoflurane general anesthesia in elderly patients: a randomized controlled trial

UNLABELLED As life expectancy increases, more patients ≥65 years undergo general anesthesia. Anesthetic agents may contribute to postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and incidence may differ with anesthetic agents or intraoperative anesthesia depth. Responses to anesthetic adjuvants vary among elderly patients. Processed electroencephalography guidance of anesthetic may better ensure equivalent...

Cognitive function after sevoflurane- vs propofol-based anaesthesia for on-pump cardiac surgery: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND Cognitive dysfunction is a frequent complication after cardiac surgery and has been found to be associated with decreases in cerebral oxygen saturation measured with near-infrared spectroscopy. Sevoflurane has neuroprotective properties in vitro and in animal models. This study was designed to determine cognitive and clinical outcomes after sevoflurane- compared with propofol-based a...
